Ask yourself now – what inspires you?
We all dream about living an inspired life, don’t we?
Here on this website you will note that I often refer to the phrase INSPIRING LIFE. It’s my main motivation as an author – to help others learn to live a more INSPIRING LIFE. But what exactly does this phrase mean?
How does a person know when he or she is living an “Inspiring Life” versus an “okay, almost inspiring” one?
I can tell you one thing straight off the bat – you don’t have to be mega-rich, mega-perfect, mega-anything to have what could be deemed an inspiring life.
To properly answer this question you are going to have to pull out a sheet of paper and pen (or at least put on your thinking cap and record these answers something safe digitally)
Don’t feel like taking the time to do this exercise? Well three cheers to you if it’s because you know that you are already living a fabulously satisfying and meaningful life!
If you however fall into the category whereby you are simply:
-Too lazy or tired
-Think it’s too hard
-Think seriously “what’s the point of anything? Blah, blah, blah”
Then you more than anyone would benefit from taking the time to do this task or at least bookmark it so that you can return to it later, when you can give it your full focus.
The task is simple:
Ask yourself now:
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
SERIOUSLY WHAT MAKE YOU FEEL FULFILLED?
WRITE DOWN A LIST OF EVERYTHING YOU LOVE – EVEN ALL THE LITTLE THINGS
NOTE ALL THE THINGS THAT GIVE YOU PURPOSE AND MAKE YOUR LIFE MEANINGFUL
Now ask yourself this:
HOW OFTEN DO YOU MAKE THE TIME TO DO THE THINGS YOU LOVE?
WORK IT OUT! IF SOMETHING SPECIAL IS CURRENTLY MISSING FROM YOUR LIFE WORK OUT WHEN AND HOW YOU CAN INCLUDE IT IN YOUR LIFE.
Look at your diary and see where these special things can be included. Maybe before work or as soon as you wake up or before you go to bed?
Don’t think you have the time?
Well here’s the truth we all have the same 24 hours and 1440 minutes to spend each day.
How much of this time do you waste?
How much time do you watch TV? How much time do you spend on the internet?
How could you use this time wisely instead?
The next step involves identifying the things that currently aren’t working for you in life.
Write a list of everything that needs to be addressed in your life.
Maybe it’s a toxic friend or bad job, or maybe it’s a bad habit or weight issue.
Once you have identified these things that are troubling you, ask yourself WHAT CAN YOU DO TO REMEDY THE SITUATION?
Remember you are either PART OF THE PROBLEM OR PART OF THE SOLUTION.
Finally one more step before we conclude this exercise:
I want you to ask yourself a few more questions (warning – these seem rather harmless but in reality they are VERY DEEP and potentially life-altering):
ARE YOU LIVING TO YOUR POTENTIAL?
WHAT “IS” YOUR POTENTIAL ANYWAY?
WHAT ARE YOU DOING THAT YOU SHOULD STOP DOING IMMEDIATELY?
WHAT YOU ARE AVOIDING BUT REALLY NEED TO BE DOING?
WHAT WOULD YOU REGRET IF YOU PASSED AWAY TOMORROW?
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE MORE YEAR LEFT TO LIVE?
WHAT QUALITIES ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU AS A PERSON – LOYALTY? HONESTY? COMPASSION? ARE YOU LIVING AND BEHAVING IN A WAY THAT IS AUTHENTIC TO YOUR TRUE SELF (HOWEVER YOU DEFINE THAT)?
PAINT A PICTURE IN WORDS OF HOW YOU COULD BE LIVING AN INSPIRING LIFE RIGHT NOW – NOT NEXT YEAR OR IN TEN YEARS TIME BUT RIGHT NOW
Sometimes the answer is simpler than you expected.
Either way please take the time to go over these questions (and regularly revisit them) as they are such an important step to working out how you can live a more inspiring life.
